Detroit-Style Coney Dog


  • 8 all-beef hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 1 can no-bean chili (or use homemade)
  • Yellow mustard
  • 1 small white onion, chopped


  1. Fill a pot with 1 inch of water and place a steaming basket in the pot. Bring water to a boil and add hot dogs. Cover pot and steam hot dogs for about 5 minutes, or until warmed through.

  2. While hot dogs are steaming, heat chili.

  3. Using tongs, remove steamed hot dogs from pot and place in the hot dog buns. Divide toppings between the hot dogs in this order: chili, mustard, and some chopped white onions.
