So how did this “Hot Hog-ust Nights” promotion come together?
The folks at Niman Ranch and Hayley Daniels, our Meat & Seafood Coordinator got together and created this program to highlight the quality of Niman Ranch Pork and support two very worthy organizations. As they worked on the campaign, Hayley was determined to support local 4-H in addition to Niman’s Next Generation Foundation, so they created dual beneficiaries, a true win-win.
“This promotion really hits home for me,” Hayley explains. “I was raised on a local farm, and showed animals for 13 years, starting small with chickens and ending big with market pigs, steer, and horses. As a kid in 4-H, I learned leadership, responsibility, and being charismatic when needed! Learning how to take care of animals 24/7, making sure they will ‘make weight’ for the fair, you put your all into winning that blue ribbon. This week’s ad will help support these invaluable experiences for kids and young farmers.”
(On a side note, Oliver’s will also be participating in this year’s Annual Sonoma County Fair Junior Livestock Auction.)
The Sonoma County 4-H program, established in 1926, helps youth, ages 5-19, reach their fullest potential as competent, confident individuals who contribute to and are connected with their communities. In 4-H programs, youth serve in leadership roles where they set goals, develop plans, complete projects, and reflect on their experiences. Youth are encouraged to discover their passions, adopt a growth mindset, practice self-reflection and set goals. 4-H projects and programs are focused around civic engagement, healthy living, and STEM.
The Niman Ranch Next Generation Foundation helps support young farmers who are committed to sustainability and helping their communities thrive. Each year, scholarships and grants are awarded to remarkable young people. Some continue working on a farm, while others pursue careers in veterinary medicine, education, healthcare, and more. No matter the path, they all share a deep-rooted work ethic, a commitment to communities, and a belief in the future of humane, sustainable agriculture.
