How to Grill the Perfect Burger

This week at Oliver’s Market we are featuring our Oliver’s Own House Made Gourmet Bacon Patties and Santa Maria Patties, and of course all great food begins with great ingredients. Our Oliver’s Own Burger Patties use Choice Beef, are made fresh daily in our Meat Department and incorporate the highest quality ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible. Grilling is the perfect way to enjoy these burgers, and these grilling tips will ensure the perfect meal!


  • Serves: 4 servings
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes


  • Oliver’s Own Gourmet Burger Patties-Santa Maria Patty or Bacon Patty


  1. Heat your grill to high (gas or charcoal):`375-400 degrees F. Remove the burgers from package, and press down on them with the palm of your hand until they flatten and increase in size by a third. This will account for any shrinkage during cooking. Brush and oil the grill. Lightly brush one side of the burgers with olive oil, place them on the grill (olive oil side down); brush the top side with olive oil. Cover, cook for 2-3 minutes to sear the bottom (you should see grill marks).

  2. Flip and cook an additional 2-3 minutes for rare, 4-5 for medium-rare or 6-7 for medium doneness as measured with an Instant Read thermometer. If adding sliced cheese, add 2 minutes before burger is finished grilling.

  3. Remove and allow to rest 5 minutes before serving.
