Front End Utility Clerk

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Duties:

  • Provide excellent and quality service to customers by giving them immediate and undivided attention
  • Respond to customers’ questions, answer to best of abilities and follow through on all questions and requests
  • Complete in-store training program
  • Be aware of products and their location in the store
  • Bag customer groceries efficiently, accurately and to the customer’s satisfaction
  • Offer service and assist customers with their groceries out to their car
  • Perform Go-Backs when needed
  • Gather and round up shopping carts and handbaskets
  • Maintain a calm, friendly and demeanor at all times
  • Answer department telephone calls and with proper phone etiquette when time permits
  • Face items throughout the store
  • Assist and support other departments when needed
  • Operate front end mobility scooter and plug it in for charging after use by a customer
  • Keep the front end clean, sweep floors and sanitize front end equipment
  • Keep Front end supplies and register area well-stocked
  • Perform other duties as directed

 

Requirements:

  • 16 years +, or attending high school and must be eligible for a valid work permit
  • Regular attendance is fundamental
  • Must be available for flexible scheduling in order to meet the department’s needs
  • Basic knowledge of the store’s layout
  • Practice safe use of all tools and equipment required by the position, know and implement proper lifting techniques, and immediately report safety violations and hazards
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures and communicate with all Front End Staff regarding department operations
  • A strong work ethic
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, convey enthusiasm and work well with customers and staff
  • A desire to learn and grow with the Oliver’s team
  • Good attendance
  • Follow and enforce all applicable State of California Health and Safety Codes
  • Ability to fulfill all physical requirements of the position

 

Physical requirements:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities:

 

  • While performing the duty of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach and use both hands to handle, finger or feel objects
  • The employee must frequently talk or hear and reach with both hands and arms above and below the shoulder
  • The employee must be able to tolerate frequent pushing and pulling during cart runs
  • The employee is occasionally required to squat, climb, kneel or crawl
  • The employee must be able to walk on uneven ground
  • The employee must be able to bend and twist at waist and neck.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds of items such as bulk dog food, large bags of oatmeal or rice, cartons of milk or beverages, trash containers, etc., a distance of 10 – 100 feet
  • The employee must regularly lift up to 10 pounds lifting and bagging items such as canned goods, packaged food, cleaning products, etc., a distance of 10 – 100 feet
  • The employee must be able to tolerate repetitive reaching, handling, grasping, gripping and manipulation of hands and fingers in order to lift and bag items such as canned goods, packaged food, cleaning products, etc.
  • Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus including having adequate visual acuity to verify invoices and other written documents
  • The employee must have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as clean up requests (due to accidental spills or breakage of glass or plastic containers having liquid contents)
  • The employee must be able to tolerate intermittent noise from customers and overhead speakers.
  • The employee must be able to work with fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and houseplants without suffering negative allergic consequences that impact performance.
  • The employee must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery such as but not limited to: forklifts or bailers
  • The employee must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust, chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents and perfume scents
  • The employee must wear a safety vest whenever completing a cart run

The employee must wear non-slip shoes at all times
