Easy Treats, Eats & Fall Feasts

It’s the season for gathering — around the table, the TV, or the fire pit.

This week at Oliver’s Market, we are highlighting some great ways to create a memorable fall gathering, with some inspiring ideas from our Point Of Sale Manager, Lisa Hall, and special pricing on many of the key ingredients!

It all started at a meeting when Lisa mentioned her family’s annual tradition of inviting friends and family to stop by on Halloween to enjoy her Nacho Bar for dinner and Caramel Apple Bar for dessert. Our marketing team decided that sounded like a delicious and flexible idea for feeding a group on Halloween – or any other occasion!

We asked Lisa to share all of her tips for creating an easy and delicious Nacho Bar and Caramel Apple Bar of your own, so let’s get to it!

Note: All quoted prices in effect through November 4, 2025 at all four Oliver’s Market locations.

Lisa’s Nacho Bar

“I started doing this 6-7 years ago because my kids and their friends usually come to our house, so I wanted to do something that was kid and adult friendly, easy to pull together and didn’t require a lot of work. I decided on a nacho bar,” Lisa explained. “Since it was such a hit the first year, I have been doing it every year since then! Our neighborhood in Rohnert Park is the place to be for trick or treating, so my house has an open door for friends and family to stop in. Usually, I have anywhere from 25-65 people throughout the night.”

How does Lisa plan out her Nacho Bar? “I usually put out items that my family likes on their Nachos. I don’t have guests contribute to the Nacho Bar because they arrive throughout the night, but if anyone does want to contribute, I tell them to bring a bag or two of candy. The candy is what costs the most and I seem to never have enough!”

Her Nacho Bar usually includes Chips, Nacho Cheese, Chili, Cilantro, Olives, Black Beans, Jalapenos, Sour Cream, Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Tomatoes, Lettuce, and a couple different Salsas. She uses “the kind of nacho cheese that you get at the ballpark, but you can use any cheese you’d like.”

Lisa’s Tips:

  • Use anything you like that goes on Nachos. You can make it vegetarian, gluten free, etc. based on your selections.
  • Keep your Cheese and Chili warm by serving them in crockpots.
  • Put other toppings in individual dishes and arrange on the countertop.
  • Use paper bowls, paper plates, and disposable silverware to keep things easy, especially on a weeknight!
  • For items that are chopped, prepare those the night before.
  • If you like homemade guacamole, prepare that that the night before, too.

Caramel Apples Made Easy!

Whole Caramel Apples are delicious, but somewhat awkward to eat. With apple slices that you dip in caramel or chocolate and top as you wish, this fun dessert offers a convenient  new take on the traditional fall treat that allows for creativity and variety, too!

Lisa has some great suggestions for this easy fall dessert, which is fun for kids and adults alike. “I use a big wooden Lazy Susan for my Caramel Apple Bar, so that guests can reach all of the toppings,” Lisa explains. “I choose two or three different types of apples, slice those up and put them on the wooden tray. (You can spritz with lemon juice to keep them from browning.) I usually buy the Oliver’s caramel (available exclusively at our Cotati location), a jar or two of fudge or chocolate ice cream topping and put them in their own dishes which I set in front of the apple board. Those can stay at room temp, so I don’t need to keep them heated. I put each candy topping in its own dish and add those dishes to the wooden apple board. My favorite toppings are Candy Corn, Heath Bar Crunch (you can find this next to the bagged chocolate chips), White Chocolate Chips, M&Ms, Nuts, and Halloween colored sprinkles. Then I put some skewers in a mason jar for serving.”

Lisa offered some final words of advice for feeding a large group this fall: “Most of all, keep it easy, start with food that will appeal to your family, and make a simple plan to set it out with a little advance planning and preparation. Make it quick, easy to serve and enjoy, and then relax and enjoy your party!”
