  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon gound cloves
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  1. In saucepan on low heat, melt the butter; stir in molasses, spices, salt, and brown sugar. Remove from heat and allow to cool, then beat in the egg.

  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda in separate bowl; slowly stir the dry ingredients into the wet. Divide dough in two portions, chill for at least two hours; preheat oven to 350 degrees. When no longer sticky, roll out and cut with cookie cutters, then transfer to lined baking sheet.

  3. Bake for 8 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are browned; transfer immediately to a cooling rack.
