The story of J Vineyards & Winery begins in 1986, when Judy Jordan followed her dream of starting a winery specializing in sparkling wine. This journey led her to Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, known for cool climate grape growing and a great diversity of soils – perfect for traditional method sparkling wines. Since its inception, J has developed a reputation as a rare American winery with both superlative sparkling and varietal wines. The dual focus on sparkling wines and varietal Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris allows for a portfolio that offers sophistication and food-friendliness in a variety of styles for all occasions.
As one of the original iconic California traditional method sparkling producers, J has always defined their own style. Under current ownership by the Gallo family, winemaker Nicole Hitchcock fuses Old World techniques with a New World flair for a unique winegrowing and winemaking philosophy, including hand-harvesting and hand-sorting, as well as the use of Coquard presses, small open-top tanks and the traditional method to craft sparkling wines.
