Gift and Floral Manager

Business Office Corporate Full Time

Position Overview: 

As the Department Manager – Gift and Floral for the Company’s Cotati, Montecito, Stony Point, Windsor stores, you are expected to control all activities that support the Department’s growth and profitability. Specifically, you are directly responsible for scheduling, personnel management, merchandise procurement, gross margin management, merchandising and quality standards, customer, and safety and sanitation in your Department. You are responsible for all communication and administration necessary for the successful completion of your duties and for ensuring compliance with all Federal, State and local laws. Your job duties will also include any additional duties deemed appropriate by the Store Director and Department Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to effectively lead from the company’s Mission Statement
  • Set customer service standards
  • Responsible for inventory procurement and management of category inventory
  • Set standards for merchandising and quality control in all retail locations
  • Oversee all Point of Sale pricing and tags
  • Accurate pricing of all items in the gift, floral and housewares category in all retail locations
  • Write weekly schedules of Gift & Floral staff in all retail locations
  • Responsible for management, training, mentoring and development of the Gift & Floral staff
  • Collaborate with First Assistants and Production Manager on merchandising plan and execution
  • Responsible for attainment of budgeted financial targets for the Floral & Gift department
  • Must be available on all critical holidays and days of high volume
  • Responsible for completing all Human Resources administration and compliance duties
  • Track all staff time and attendance and complete appropriate paperwork
  • Complete 1000 hours reviews for all Gift & Floral staff in all retail locations
  • Attend all recurring store level manager meetings
  • You are expected to conduct your affairs with integrity and in accordance with all policies outlined in the company’s handbook
  • You are responsible for all communication and administration necessary for the successful completion of your duties
  • Ensure compliance of all Health and Safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local laws
  • Travel to all retail locations as needed
  • Your job duties will also include any additional duties deemed appropriate by the Store Director and Gift & Floral Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the grocery industry or retail floral environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in all aspects of floral design
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in perishable inventory management
  • Previous leadership experience preferred

SKILLS

  • Excellent knowledge of flowers, plants including proper care, rotation and handling of perishable items
  • Excellent knowledge of trends in all areas of gift and floral
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, well organized and detailed oriented
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills; written and oral
  • Must have strong work ethic and organizational skills
  • Must be dependable and flexible to meet the needs of the department
  • Must have the ability to lead and train a diverse workforce
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Financial acumen and ability to read and interpret financial statements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and programs associated with this position
  • Knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce and schedule writing
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and effectively
  • Self-motivated, self-directed and able to multitask
  • Detail oriented with strong management skills
  • A working knowledge of a retail store day-to-day operations
  • Ability to work well with others and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of position

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Bilingual, English/Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees and vendors

     REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

TRAININGS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CA Harassment Prevention for Supervisors Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Acceptable DMV Report
  • Personal vehicle insurance

  • The employee must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust, chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents.
