Classic Sugar Cookies

With the holidays here, baking is an occasion for spending time with the family and passing on traditions. These soft and chewy Classic Sugar Cookies are the perfect recipe to make with children, and are tender and soft with just the right amount of chewiness. They take just minutes to make with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl, mix well, and then slowly combine with wet ingredients.

  2. Wrap dough and refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.

  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out dough and cut, then transfer to lined baking sheet leaving 1” in between cookies. Bake 6 to 8 minutes; transfer immediately to cooling rack.
