Perishable Foods Assistant

Unspecified Deli Full Time

Position Overview:

The Perishable Foods Assistant will perform a wide variety of support duties for the Company’s Deli departments and Company perishable food departments including, Bakery, Meat, Gourmet Cheese and Produce.  Responsibilities include managing recipes and costing all products in the departments.  Responsible for tracking and monitoring all pricing from vendors, updating margin reports and making required adjustments for the Deli departments to ensure appropriate pricing and margins are met.  Maintain warehouse inventory and ordering for several categories and coordinate inventory procurement with the Corporate Warehouse team. Coordinate channel-wide purchasing of products for consistency in product selection and pricing. Perform semi-annual warehouse and store inventory.  Manage the Labelview program for the Company.  Provide Deli in-store support for the HMR program, purchasing and costing concerns and participate in seasonal events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Deli operation in all Company locations
  • Supports perishable departments and Channel Coordinators as needed
  • Support Buyer’s Assistant’s as needed
  • Manage Chef Tec recipe program for all perishable departments using current costing, recipe and formula updates
  • Maintain and update inventory pricing and inventory guides for all Company Deli departments and warehouse
  • Manage warehouse inventory for the Deli departments; purchasing and required procedures for all Deli warehouse items
  • Manage Labelview program; create new labels, communicate with POS department on all updates and adjustments as needed
  • Run movement reports for the Deli as needed
  • Manage monthly Deli margin reports
  • Maintain and update Deli HMR order, prep, and production guides for the department
  • Provide technical support for the perishable department as needed
  • Provide technical support for Commissary Bakery as needed
  • Understand our companies HACCP plan and provide support as needed
  • Assist in daily operations of the Department as needed
  • Maintain health department compliance standards
  • Proficient in weekly Waste Log and implement ordering and production changes as needed
  • Properly execute inter-company transfers
  • All other duties as assigned by Perishable Foods leadership team as needed
  • Be able to travel from all the locations and Corporate office as needed

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a grocery deli or food service related industry
  • Minimum of 1 year experience performing clerical duties

Trainings, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • ANSI Accredited Food Handler Certificate
  • AB1825 Harassment Prevention Certificate
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and clear driving record


  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Understand and adhere to all Oliver’s and kitchen policies and procedures for proper and safe food handling.
  • Follow and uphold all OSHA safety regulations
  • Complete required equipment training necessary to perform daily tasks when supporting store level activities
  • Follow all labeling specifications for shelf life, quantity, and product name
  • Properly store product while possessing an understanding of F.I.F.O.
  • Complete tasks assigned in a timely manner
  • Must have a flexible schedule and able to work some weekends
  • Follow and enforce all applicable State of California Health and Safety Codes
  • Have a valid Food Certification through ServSafe or other ANSI compliant organization
  • Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the position

  • The employee frequently is required to sit or stand at a desk
  • Use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard or mouse, handle and feel phones, files and paperwork
  • While performing the duty of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, and occasionally crawl, squat, climb and kneel
  • The employee must be able to bend and twist at waist and neck.
  • The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and regularly lift up to 10 pounds
  • The employee must be able to reach above and below shoulders to access items in cabinets, shelves, display cases and on racks
  • The employee must be able to work around heavy kitchen equipment and machinery such as but not limited to: salad bar display, slicers, mixers, fryer, stoves, ovens, steamers and dishwashers
  • The employee must be able to tolerate regular pushing, pulling, grasping, gripping and manipulation of hands and fingers in order to help prepare dishes, handle prepared foods, arrange food displays, storing product, dating and labeling prepped items and cleaning equipment
  • The employee must be able to tolerate intermittent noise from kitchen equipment, overhead fans, customers and overhead speakers
  • The employee must be able to work with grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts without suffering negative allergic consequences that impact performance
  • The employee must be able to tolerate some work in extreme temperatures while working near chilled display cases, grill, ovens, stoves or dishwashers
  • The employee must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of chemical fumes from cleaning agents
  • The employee must wear gloves when using knives, slicer machinery, displaying prepped items and protective eyewear when using products to clean equipment
  • The employee must always wear non-slip shoes

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate while working in the office.  On occasion the work environment may entail being in a warehouse, store location, or being outside where there is intermittent noise from machinery, activity, and overhead speakers.
