Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Duties:

  • Perform similar duties as of a Checker and Utility Clerk; restock registers with supplies when necessary
  • Provide excellent and quality service to customers by giving them immediate and undivided attention
  • Ensure that customers are being cared for and the Front End department looks fantastic at all times
  • Respond to customers’ questions and answer to best of abilities and follow through on all questions and requests
  • Check out and bag customer groceries quickly and accurately
  • To be proficient with all PLU codes and the in-store PLU Flip Chart
  • Be aware of products and their location in the store
  • Maintain a calm, friendly and professional demeanor at all times
  • Walk produce department as needed to learn about new products and codes
  • Pass weekly quizzes testing knowledge of PLU codes
  • Gather and round up carts
  • Perform Go-Backs when needed
  • Follow and enforce Federal and State regulations regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages, tobacco and taxation
  • Properly utilizing tares when ringing up scalable items
  • Must accurately prepare loans and pulls as well as accurately verify and count out tills
  • Follow all proper cash handling procedures
  • Follow established check, ATM and credit procedures
  • Aid Front End Leads and Managers in regulating customer flow and backed up lines as well as reducing waiting time for customers
  • Assisting and supporting other departments when needed
  • Offer service and assist customers with their groceries out to their car
  • Request and ensure proper signage
  • Answer department telephone calls and with expert phone etiquette
  • Operate Front End equipment in a safe and proper manner
  • Keep the front end clean, sweep floors and sanitize front end equipment, straighten up register
  • Clean and stock the Front End Department particularly one’s own register, change register tape and ribbon when necessary
  • Face items throughout the store
  • Keep Front end supplies and register area well-stocked
  • Perform other duties as directed by Front End Lead or Manager

Requirements:

  • 18 years +
  • Be proficient in PLU codes
  • Prior completion of in-store training program
  • Must be available for flexible scheduling in order to meet the department’s needs
  • Possess excellent visual abilities to examine and accurately determine quality and freshness of products
  • Ability to recognize different types of produce
  • Basic knowledge of the store’s layout
  • Regular attendance is fundamental
  • Practice safe use of all tools and equipment required by the position, know and implement proper lifting techniques, and immediately report safety violations and hazards
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast paced environment
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to follow efficiently and effectively instructions and procedures
  • A strong work ethic and safe work habits
  • Ability to work well with others and as a part of a team
  • Must possess a positive attitude and a desire to learn about natural and organic foods and products and to grow with the Oliver’s team
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, convey enthusiasm and work well with customers and staff
  • Good attendance
  • Follow and enforce all applicable State of California Health and Safety Codes
  • Ability to fulfill all physical requirements of the position

 

Physical requirements:

  • While performing the duty of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, reach and use both hands to handle, finger or feel objects
  • The employee must frequently walk, talk or hear and reach with both hands and arms above and below the shoulder
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, squat, climb, kneel or crawl
  • The employee must be able to bend and twist at waist and neck.
  • The employee must regularly use their fingers to operate a keyboard and count money
  • The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds of items such as bulk dog food, large bags of rice, cartons of milk or beverages, etc., and be able to push/pulls carts with product weighing up to 100lbs
  • The employee must regularly lift up to 10 pounds lifting and bagging items such as canned goods, packaged food, cleaning products, etc.
  • The employee must be able to tolerate repetitive reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, grasping, gripping and manipulation of hands and fingers in order to lift and bag items such as canned goods, packaged food, cleaning products, etc.
  • Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus including having adequate visual acuity to verify invoices and other written documents
  • The employee must have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as clean up requests (due to accidental spills or breakage of glass or plastic containers having liquid contents)
  • The employee must be able to tolerate intermittent noise from customers and overhead speakers.
  • The employee must be able to work with fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and houseplants without suffering negative allergic consequences that impact performance.
  • The employee must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery such as but not limited to: forklifts, box cutters or bailers
  • The employee must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust, chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents and perfume scents

The employee must wear non-slip shoes at all times
